Back in 2002, I put together the family history as it relates to Pearl Lake State Park history. The document is attached below. It was really fascinating to talk to people who lived in the life and times of my grandparents and to read some of the historic events.

I revised the paper in 2024 and it is titled: Exploring the History of Pearl Lake State Park: A Journey Back in Time and an abridged version plus several sections (or chapters) on the history. You are welcome to download the document on this page as a PDF – but I need to update it to what is now on the web. The links above are preferred until I can get the revision done.

My favorite parts include: Tom Horn’s hunt for the sheep ranchers, the shooting of Wilkes and my grandma’s reaction to it, the range wars and the night my grandfather was driven out of Colorado with his sheep, the minister’s son who took the rap for a murder, the history of Hahns Peak, the lawsuits over my granddad’s estate, and more. Please enjoy the reading and remember – (copyright 2002/updated 2024- may not duplicate without written permission.)
